The new Lagonegro Hospital

In 2008 Olicar was awarded the concession contract for the construction of the Lagonegro hospital. This involved the design, construction and management of the hospital, the structure and integrated technological services. The project was the result of a public-private partnership in which the Region of Basilicata funded two-thirds of the initial outlay (€40m) and the private team the remaining third (€20m).

Olicar, with its years of experience in managing energy services in the hospital sector, sees this project as a fundamental step towards growth in the hospital and biomedical market. Olicar intends to become one of the leading companies in this market.

The site

The site is located near the Lagonegro Sud exit on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway.

The Spaces

The design solution simplifies and rationalizes both the access paths and the inter-hospital paths thanks to the grouping of healthcare and support services in closely correlated functional areas. The paths between different areas are simple, direct and short. This result was obtained thanks to the decision to divide the hospital into a “slab” on four levels which follow the conformation of the land (-2, -1, 0, +1) cut through by a connecting path on two levels (at level 0 and level +1) oriented along the southeast-northwest axis. Access for visitors, outpatients and planned admissions is to the southeast, while access to the casualty department and the emergency area is to the northwest.

Characteristics

The new structure will be the local health board’s only hospital for acute care. The environmental impact of its construction will be reduced to a minimum. Preference has been given to technology with high performance in the areas of duration, low maintenance, rapid realization, eco-compatibility and low energy consumption in both the realization and operational phases. Examples include the adoption of ventilated facades with external insulation, using “dry” construction techniques to assemble industrial elements and manufactured pieces, covering roofs with extensive planting, etc.

Progress

The project is being developed and realized within the ambit of a hospital concession by the grouping of Conscoop and Olicar. In 2008 Olicar was awarded the contract for the new hospital concession. The final design was put together in the 2009-2010 two-year period, and the works are scheduled to be completed within the 2011-2013 three-year period.
