White certificates
Olicar is an accredited ESCO (Energy Service Company) and as such can sell and buy energy efficiency shares (also known as white certificates or TEE in Italy) through bilateral agreements or on the platform run by GME (Gestore del Mercato Elettrico, the Italian electricity market operator).
White certificates are issued by the GME upon request of the authorities at the end of a control process aimed at verifying that energy efficiency measures have been effectively implemented in compliance with the rules defined by the same authorities.
There are two main advantages to this new mechanism:
- the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in order to meet the limits set by the Kyoto Protocol and the reduction of local pollution deriving from energy production and consumptiont
- the reduction of energy expenditure for the final users
